Zebra 10010040 Z-Select 4000D labels are 2.25" x 0.5" white direct thermal paper labels for shelf-edge labeling, price marking and compact product identification. Smooth coated paper prints without a ribbon, while permanent all-temperature acrylic adhesive supports everyday indoor labeling. Perforations make individual labels easy to separate.

Sold by the case: 4 rolls containing 4,200 labels each, totaling 16,800 labels. Each roll has a 1" core and a 5" outer diameter. Check your printer's media requirements, especially its minimum label length, before ordering.

Material construction and printing

Z-Select 4000D combines a 3.2 mil coated direct thermal paper facestock, a 0.8 mil adhesive layer and a 2.3 mil, 40 lb. semi-bleached kraft liner. Total construction thickness is 6.3 mil ±10%. Zebra specifies good print quality at speeds up to 10 inches per second for this material. Actual operating speed depends on printer capability, settings and label design.

Low-height indoor identification

The ultra-short format suits shelf labels, price identifiers and narrow product labels. Match text and barcode layouts to the available label area. For tube or vial identification, pre-test adhesion on the exact container under the intended handling and temperature conditions. This paper material is not intended for exposure to blood, body fluids or harsh laboratory chemicals.

Printer fit

Select a direct thermal printer that accepts the media width, 0.5" label length, 1" core, 5" roll diameter and material thickness. Verify the exact model's minimum label length, sensing and media-handling requirements, including any limits associated with dispensing or cutting. A printer's nominal print width alone does not establish roll compatibility. Contact us for help checking fit before ordering.

Temperature and storage

  • Minimum application temperature: -20°F (-29°C)
  • Service temperature: -65°F to 140°F (-54°C to 60°C)
  • Optimal storage: 72°F (22°C) at 50% relative humidity

Application temperature describes conditions when attaching a label. Service temperature describes exposure after application, not the permitted initial application temperature. Pre-test adhesion and print readability on the intended surface under actual operating conditions.

Exposure limitations

This paper material has limited moisture and abrasion resistance and is not recommended for outdoor use. Blood, body fluids, window cleaner, alcohol, ammonia, bleach, IPA, gasoline, grease, oil, acetone, MEK, TCE and xylene are not recommended exposures. Choose media designed for tougher conditions when fluid or solvent resistance, heavy abrasion or outdoor durability is required.

Frequently asked questions

What size are Zebra 10010040 labels?

Each label measures 2.25" wide by 0.5" long (57.15 x 12.7 mm).

How many labels come in a case?

A case contains 4 rolls of 4,200 labels, totaling 16,800 labels.

Do these labels require a ribbon?

No. Z-Select 4000D is direct thermal paper and prints using heat without a thermal transfer ribbon.

Are these labels perforated?

Yes. Perforations allow easy separation during application.

Will these fit any Zebra printer?

Check the exact model. It must support direct thermal printing and accept the media width, 0.5" label length, 1" core, 5" outer diameter and material thickness. Verify minimum label length and sensing or dispensing requirements.

Can these be used on specimen tubes?

Pre-test fit and adhesion on the exact tube or vial under your intended conditions. The material is not recommended for exposure to blood, body fluids, alcohol or the other chemicals listed above. Choose purpose-designed media when those exposures are expected.

Are these wristbands?

No. These are adhesive paper labels, not a wristband product.

What print speed is supported?

Zebra specifies good print quality up to 10 inches per second for Z-Select 4000D material. Your printer, settings and label design may require a lower speed.

Can these labels be applied at -65°F?

No. The minimum application temperature is -20°F (-29°C). The -65°F lower service limit describes exposure after application.

Are these waterproof or suitable outdoors?

No. The material has limited moisture and abrasion resistance and is not recommended for outdoor use.

How should unused rolls be stored?

Optimal storage conditions are 72°F (22°C) at 50% relative humidity.
